Fratello del più celebre David Teniers, si ritiene che sia stato inoltre suo allievo. L’influenza del fratello si nota in tutti i suoi lavori, fino a far pensare all’imitazione. A tal proposito numerose sue opere sono in passato state attribuite a David, nonostante vi sia tra i due artisti un’evidente differenza di valori artistici.
Come in una raccolta di La Fontaine, egli gioca all’umanizzazione di animali, per rendere evidenti vizi e virtù del nostro genere, che meglio cogliamo distaccati in situazione figurative stranianti. A metà, appunto, tra la fiaba e l’insieme di frammenti surreali, che sfiorano la materia densamente eterea del sogno

The brother of the most famous David Teniers, he is believed to have also been his pupil. His brother’s influence can be noted in all his works, to the point of thinking about imitation. In this regard many of his works have in the past been attributed to David, although there is an obvious difference in artistic values between the two artists.
As in a collection by La Fontaine, he plays to the humanization of animals, to make obvious vices and virtues of our kind, which we better take detached in strange figurative situations. In the middle, precisely, between the fairy tale and the set of surreal fragments, which touch the densely ethereal matter of the dream.
